Mental Health & Substance Use Counseling in the Roaring Fork Valley

Natalie Baca, LPC-S, LAC

Natalie is a Licensed Professional Counselor – Supervisor, and Licensed Addiction Counselor
who was raised in the Roaring Fork Valley. With over 15 years of clinical experience supporting
individuals through mental health and substance use challenges, she brings a compassionate,
grounded approach to her practice. Natalie is committed to creating a safe space for healing and
growth.

Natalie’s professional training includes a range of therapeutic modalities, including Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT),
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), somatic-based and trauma-focused interventions, and
mindfulness practices. Her approach to therapy is rooted in psychodynamic, gestalt, and
humanistic therapies; this means moving toward recovery from a lens of respecting the mind as
having innate wisdom that sometimes can become maladaptive. In sessions, clients will develop
insights from life experiences to recognize problematic patterns in their current lives and then
engage in healthy change.

Testimonials

"The first few years of my treatment, there was a visceral hesitation to engage in therapy.  I struggled to verbalize my self-harm habits, suicidal ideation, drug use, and PTSD. Therapy and group appointments would magnify my shame and frustration as my inability to connect with those around me remained steadfast.  After working with several providers, I began individual therapy with Natalie.  In relatively short order with the information, resources, and newfound sense of a therapeutic safe space Natalie provided- I learned to be vulnerable about and empathetic towards my path to mental wellness.  She has acted as a guide to me in the individualized pursuit of achievable goals relevant to a healthier and happier existence. When the inevitable setbacks occur, there is no longer a self-imposed “therapy shame”. Natalie meets me where I am and helps me get back on track with thoughtful assessments of my experience and insightful ideas of how to move forward. Working with Natalie completely changed my perspective of the efficacy of individual and group therapy. Her professionalism, intelligence, and enthusiasm has made the seemingly impossible undertaking of mental wellness feel personally achievable."

There is a story in Zen circles about a man and a horse.  The horse is galloping quickly and it
appears that the man on the horse is going somewhere important.  Another man, standing
alongside the road shouts, “Where are you going?” and the first man replies “I do not know, ask
the horse!”

This is also our story.  We may be riding a horse and we do not know where it is going and we
cannot stop.  The horse is our habit energy pulling us along….

Mindfulness is the energy that allows us to recognize our habit energy and prevent it from
dominating us.  Be mindful of your habit energy.  Change is challenging AND the effort will reap
huge rewards.
